Imagine a future where gene and neural engineering are no longer experimental; but perfected, safe, and accessible to all.
Two paths lie open to us:
1. Genetically edit every person to be physically attractive by society's standards.
2. Modify our brains so we perceive everyone as physically attractive, dissolving beauty standards entirely.
Both options aim to eliminate the social pain and inequality tied to appearance. One reshapes the body to match desire. The other reshapes desire to match the body.
Which path is more ethical? More human? More liberating?
And if we choose neither - are we making a conscious moral stand, or simply leaving things as they are because it’s easier not to decide?
